SUMMARY:ICBE-EMF WEBINAR: RADIOFREQUENCY RADIATION FROM WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS SOURCES: ARE SAFETY LIMITS VALID?
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, June 14 from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM EDT (6:00 AM – 9:30 AM PDT; 2:00 PM – 5:30 PM BST) \nThis free webinar is available for all to participate. The webinar is a live stream of an invitation-only workshop being conducted by the ICBE-EMF (International Commission on the Biological Effects of Electromagnetic Fields) at the Royal Society of Medicine in London on June 14.\nThe program features presentations by Kent Chamberlin\, Erica Mallery-Blythe and James Lin\, with commentary by John Frank. David Gee is the moderator. Chamberlin\, Mallery-Blythe\, Frank\, and Gee are members of ICBE-EMF. \nJames Lin is a life fellow of the IEEE\, and was Editor-in-Chief of the journal\, Bioelectromagnetics from 2006-2022\, and a Commissioner of the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) from 2004 to 2016. He published an article in the June 2023 issue of IEEE Microwave Magazine that criticizes ICNIRP’s radiofrequency radiation (RFR) guidelines\, including millimeter waves used for 5G. Lin justifies his position\, in part\, based on ICBE-EMF’s assumptions paper which critiques FCC and ICNIRP RFR guidelines. Professor Lin’s paperconcludes\, “many of the recommended limits are questionable from the standpoint of scientific justification for the safety and public health protection.” \nFor program information and to register for the webinar\, go to www.icbe-emf.org/activities/.

SUMMARY:Electro-Hyper-Sensitivity: The State of Science
DESCRIPTION:Follow live on webstream: bit.ly/RivasiLive_EHS \nElectro-Hyper-Sensitivity: The State of Science\nan European Parliament Workshop hosted by MEP Michele Rivasi (Greens/EFA) \nElectromagnetic-Hyper-Sensitivity (EHS)\, also called Idiopathic Environmental Intolerance attributed to electromagnetic fields (IEI-EMF)\, is a condition defined by the attribution of various and non-specific symptoms to exposure to electromagnetic fields of man-made origins. This European Parliament workshop event for MEPs\, Commission\, Stakeholders will discuss the state of science of the EHS. Researches and publications of a dozen of scientists\, from all over Europe\, will be presented at the European Parliament\, with communication posters and debate on policy options. \nWhen : 13 April 2023\, from 14:30 to 18:30\, room A5E1 \nEHS can be a severely disabling condition\, with a relatively high prevalence and needs better scientific understanding and more effective treatments. The French Agency for Food\, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety (ANSES) estimates in 2018 the prevalence of electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS) at 5% of the general population\, aka 25.6 millions Europeans. \nThe ANSES report assumed that “the complaints (pain\, suffering) expressed by people who declare themselves to be EHS correspond to an experienced reality and these people need to adapt their daily lives to cope with them. The symptoms experienced by people who declare themselves to be EHS sufferers\, as well as the psycho-social isolation experienced by some of them\, require and justify appropriate care by health and social care providers“. Additional surveys estimates that the prevalence of people with restricted access to work due to EMF sensitivity at 0\,65 % of the general population\, equaling near 5 millions EU people. \nThe European Parliament\, since 2009\, “calls on Member States […] to grant people suffering from electromagnetic hypersensitivity the status of persons with reduced abilities\, so that they can enjoy appropriate protection and equal opportunities“. \nMuch of the scientific and medical controversy over the causation of EHS lies in the absence of recognized clinical and biological criteria for diagnosis. Explanatory hypotheses range from psychological “nocebo” effect to individual sensitivity\, with individual responses to EMF depending on individual genetic and epigenetic properties. Others experts are considering “functional impairment” or neurological syndrome. \nWhat are the latest findings on EHS from the Science? How can we interpret these findings? Do these researches can contribute to the current hypotheses and the scientific debate? What public health and inclusive policy options can be favored to support EHS people and improve their quality of life? \nPROGRAM & SPEAKERS \n14:30 Opening and Introduction\, MEP Michele Rivasi \n14:35 – 15:35 Panel 1 : What Science finds? \n\nSam J. SUMMARY:Drone War\, Tech Assassinations and the Future of Conflict
DESCRIPTION:I invite you to join NRCAT and the Interfaith Working Group on Drone Warfare for a webinar on December 13 at noon ET. \nDrone War\, Tech Assassinations\, and the Future of Conflict: Theological\, Legal\, and Policy Developments   \nRegister for the Dec. 13th webinar at noon ET/9am PT \nFrom the first fully autonomous deadly targeting in Libya to “kamikaze” drone attacks on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine and “Over the horizon” capability in Afghanistan\, the use of lethal drones is expanding with little restraint. The technology and availability of lethal drones continue to quickly expand and are outpacing ethical and policy reflection and restraints. \nIn a previous webinar the Interfaith Working Group on Drone Warfare focused on the human costs of drone strikes\, both in the targeted communities and to the operators. In this discussion we will explore the expansion of drones use due to weapons sales and technology transfers as well as the technological advances in AI and use of lethal force via drones as well as ethical and policy considerations that these raise. \nFor example\, how does the ease of use of deadly force change and challenge theological and ethical frameworks for evaluating justness? And\, how must humans stay “in the loop” on moral questions of such gravity? The expansion of availability and lethality highlight the need for more robust and sustained theological ethical analysis of our assumptions of war\, violence\, and targeting. \nThe panelists for the discusion are: \n\nDr. Pauline Muchina\, the Policy\, Education\, and Advocacy Coordinator for Africa at AFSC in Washington\, DC and a member of the Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians. She holds a Masters degree from Yale University Divinity School and a Ph.D. from the Union Theological Seminary.\nDaphne Eviatar\, Amnesty International USA’s Director of Security with Human Rights. A human rights advocate and lawyer\, she is expert on the prosecution and treatment of international terrorism suspects\, she reported on military commission proceedings at Guantanamo Bay\, the treatment of detainees at the Bagram air base in Afghanistan\, terrorism trials in federal courts\, and the U.S. drone war.\nAnnie Shiel\, Senior Advisor\, United States\, at Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC). Annie leads CIVIC’s work engaging with U.S. policymakers\, lawmakers\, and advocates to enhance the protection of civilians in conflict\, includig CIVIC’s policy analysis and advocacy around the civilian harm implications of U.S. military operations and security assistance\, and building and working with coalitions of likeminded organizations to advance U.S. policies that improve the lives of civilians living in conflict.\n\nI hope you can join us for this webinar – register here.

SUMMARY:Mobilize: A Film about Cell Phone Radiation
DESCRIPTION:This award-winning\, feature-length documentary explores the long-term health effects from cell phone radiation including cancer and infertility. The film examines scientific research\, follows state and national legislative efforts\, and illuminates the influence that technology companies have on public health. The film was selected as the best documentary film at the California Independent Film Festival. \nMobilize features interviews with scientists\, doctors\, politicians\, cancer patients\, and technology experts including interviews with Gavin Newsom\, now governor of California\, Steve Wozniak\, co-founder of Apple\, and Harvard Law Professor Lawrence Lessig.\n\n\n\nWhen Gavin Newsom was mayor of San Francisco\, he was one of the strongest supporters of a cell phone “right to know” ordinance that the Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted. Once he left the city to become Lt. Governor\, the city gave up fighting the CTIA’s Federal lawsuit and retracted the ordinance. In our film\, Newsomstated he received substantial “blowback” from the industry. See his interview at 0:04:30 – 04:45\, 0:6:50 – 0:07:40\, and 1:04:30 – 1:05:02.\n\n\n \nThe documentary was directed by Kevin Kunze and produced by researchers\, Devra Davis and Joel Moskowitz\, and by Ellie Marks\, co-founder of the California Brain Tumor Association.\n\n\n\n\nWatch the film that the Telecom industry doesn’t want you to see!\n\n\n \nDuring December the film is available to view for free on YouTube: .\n\n\nFor more information about the film and two movie reviews:\nMobilize: A Film About Cell Phone Radiation

SUMMARY:Prevention of harm in mobile telecommunication
DESCRIPTION:Organised by the FDEF House for Sustainable Governance and Markets in collaboration with the Belgio-Luxembourg Hub of the European Law Institute (ELI)\, the Association Luxembourgeoise pour le droit de l’environment (ALDE) and EU Law Live (as media partner). \nSpeakerDr. David Gee\, Former Senior Science Adviser European Environmental Agency\, Visiting Fellow\, Centre for Pollution Research and Policy\, Brunel University\, London \nAbstract \nThe histories of some 35 hazardous agents (chemical\, technological and in ecosystems) that have been reviewed and analysed by the European Environment Agency in its two volumes of “Late Lessons from Early Warnings: the Precautionary Principle 1896-2000” (EEA 2001) and “Late Lessons from early warnings: Science; Precaution\, Innovation” (EEA 2013) revealed 4 common arguments used to delay timely preventive actions. These 4 concern the consistency/inconsistency of research results; the effects/adverse effects dichotomy; the strength of evidence for causality; and the safety of current exposure limits for workers\, children and the public. These 4 issues will be critically examined via a focus on the current debate in Germany and elsewhere in Europe\, Australia\, and the USA etc. concerning the safety of electromagnetic radiations from mobile telecommunications as used in 3-5G systems.
