“When you invent the ship, you also invent the shipwreck; when you invent the plane you also invent the plane crash; and when you invent electricity, you invent electrocution… Every technology carries its own negativity, which is invented at the same time as technical progress.” – Paul Virilio

Film Synopsis
A wife and entrepreneur devoted to her family and business tragically loses everything as her health mysteriously declines. Why is she now left alone and unable to function in society? All is revealed through a series of startling events and a final, uncomfortable diagnosis. Her health, welfare and future truly hang in the balance because she has a disability with very limited recognition and support. The sense of her disability being a taboo subject in our society, and the related discrimination she is facing may surprise us in the 21st century. The stigma associated with her disability is also shocking, as is the increasing reporting of this disability – called electrohypersensitivity (EHS) – throughout the world today. This revealing animated film brings her thoughts on her disability issues into the light, exposing the impact on her human rights, the social exclusion, the deep anxieties, the sense of vulnerability, and her search for remedy and solutions as she faces her challenges. Remembering Nearfield is the first animated film to be narrated by a person with electrohypersensitivity (Corriëlle van Vuuren). With frank openness, she traces the troubling development of her disability within a powerful testimony that brings her animated character and dramatic experiences vividly to life. We are brought face to face with a woman who is like everybody else – because she had been convinced such crippling illness coming from man-made electromagnetic fields (EMFs) in her environment was “crazy” and so could never have happened to her. Why does this story need to be told? Public awareness of EHS is very poor, and there is little help, understanding or acceptance for those struggling to live with it. This is a disability predominantly hidden from public view because it affirms the inconvenient truth that wireless technologies are hazardous to health.
It is hoped that Remembering Nearfield can catalyse positive social change. A safer and more inclusive world is desirable that fully supports and accommodates the needs of people with EMF-induced disability. With over 5% of the population living with EHS today we can see that Corriëlle is only the tip of the iceberg, pointing to a significant disability crisis requiring urgent resolution.

Review of Remembering Nearfield
Remembering Nearfield: A Review by Karen Churchill “Remembering Nearfield” excellently portrays the invisible toxin – man-made EMFs – at work; the staccato and cloudy overlays effectively evoke the environmental electro-smog and sense of brain fog and disconnected thinking. The pulsing red rings upon the body and vignettes of clumping blood invite further questioning as to what exactly the effects of the radiation are at the cellular level. 97% of all studies show that radiofrequency radiation causes oxidative stress, an important fact ready to discover amongst many others which validate the toxic impact of anthropogenic EMFs on the nervous system. The film styling and clever simplicity will appeal to a wide age-range including teens and twenties which is significant as the younger generations are particularly vulnerable; they may have no memory of life without the blanket coverage of EMFs and so cannot make a sensory comparison between an environment soaked in the so-called non-ionising radtiation and one without.
